A protocol consisting of the interspersion of seeds during the menstrual cycle phases (follicular and luteal) to promote the balance of the hormonal system of women.
Estrogen and progesterone are two hormones that are released during the cycle, and there is a higher estrogen release in the first phase of the cycle (follicular) and progesterone in the second (luteal phase). Deregulation of these two hormones throughout the cycle can bring PMS symptoms, symptomatic menstruations, acne, irregular and anovulatory cycles, among others.
What is the seed cycle?
The seed cycle is the practice of consuming four different seed types - pumpkin, flaxseed, sesame and sunflower - at different stages of the menstrual cycle as a way to help maintain a healthy balance of estrogen and progesterone.
Alternating consumption of these seeds naturally helps regulate these hormones during the cycle.
In short, it consumes flaxseed and ground pumpkin seeds in proportion to one to one during the follicular phase and ground seeds of sesame and sunflower in proportion from one to one during the luteal phase.
To quickly remember, the follicular phase occurs in the first 14 days of its menstrual cycle and the luteal phase occurs in the last 14 days. (Of course there are variations from person to person.) During the follicular phase, estrogen levels increase while progesterone levels are low. The luteal phase occurs after ovulation and estrogen levels descend while progesterone levels increase.
How do I make the seed cycle:
Personally I always use whole, biological seeds that I keep in the refrigerator before Mora (so as not to be ranked and retain their integrity). Then depending on the cycle that is place in the blender and peak glass until you get a thin flour. Guard in a lid bottle in the fridge and use it daily.
The seeds use in beaten (as This delicious recipe of blueberries) and also sprinkle over fresh fruit, salad or anything else that is eating (looks good with everything!). I certify that the seeds I use based on my cycle.
• Flaxseed Seeds + Pumpkin Seeds: They help regulate estrogen and increase fiber (which will help with metabolism of this hormone) - so you should use in the first phase of the cycle (follicular phase).
• Sesame seeds + sunflower seeds: After ovulation, use a combination of these seeds, which will help you regulate progesterone that is released in the luteal phase (second phase of the cycle) and reduce PMS symptoms.

Curious? To try:
Days 1 to 14 of your cycle: Consume 1 tablespoon ground pumpkin seeds and 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed seeds.
Days 15 to 28 of your cycle: Consume 1 tablespoon of ground sesame seeds and 1 tablespoon of ground sunflower seeds.
If you do not have a regular cycle, it is recommended to follow the lunar cycle. New Moon = Day 1. Full Moon = Day 15.
It is important to buy good quality, biological and whole seeds.
Always grind the seeds at home, store in a glass container with lid and keep in the refrigerator: it helps to conserve its characteristics and benefits and a better absorption of the body.
Do not forget that the cycle starts on the first day of menstruation!
What are the benefits of the seed cycle?
Although there are no big studies there are many people who guarantee that it helps with:
- Acne
- Irregular periods
- Fertility
- PMS
- And other symptoms related to hormones
In addition, the seeds are very good for us because they are full of antioxidants, fiber and fatty acids.
How does the seed cycle work?
Once again, more studies are needed. But essentially, the combination of nutrients in seeds is believed to help balance hormones during the menstrual cycle.
Lignanas
Tanto as sementes de linhaça como as sementes de sésamo contêm lignanas, um tipo de fitoestrogénio que supostamente suporta níveis saudáveis de estrogénio. Basically they can improve estrogen levels and prevent excess estrogen.
Zinc
Pumpkin and sesame seeds are rich in zinc, which seems to support the reproductive system and decrease menstrual pain.
Vitamin E
Sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E, which helps increase progesterone levels.
Selenium
Sunflower seeds also bring selenium to the table. Researchers believe that this mineral directly affects thyroid and healthy hormonal regulation.
