Cellulite – an alteration in the skin's fat that causes cells to enlarge and become compressed, resulting in irregularities and ripples on the skin's surface – is a common problem for almost all women at some point in their lives. But don't despair, because there is a solution.
It's amazing how simple it can be, but one of the best treatments for cellulite that we can do at home, two to three times a week, is actually a dry massage using only a body brush . This method has been used for millennia in Ayurvedic medicine, and it works because it acts on the surface of the skin to stimulate everything underneath (the lymphatic system) and get to the root of the problem.
What is body brush massage?
It is an exfoliation technique that consists of a dry massage using only a body brush with soft, natural bristles, which is passed over the entire body. In the Ayurvedic tradition, this technique of massaging dry skin to improve health, body and mind, is called garshana , and even today it is a daily beauty ritual for many women in Asia.
Why does body brushing work? Because it naturally stimulates lymphatic drainage, helping the body to release excess fluids, leaving the skin more toned and smooth, and evening out its texture. The massage will increase circulation and help to "dissolve" cellulite, breaking down fat deposits and preventing the formation of new cellulite by promoting lymphatic drainage.
During the massage process, the brush performs a gentle exfoliation, stimulating regeneration, removing dead cells and revealing healthy cells, and breaking the bonds between lipids, for a smoother and more even appearance.
Furthermore, the massage itself is delightful, a relaxing experience to release tension and soothe muscles.
Benefits of body brush massage
Just achieving smoother, softer skin would already be wonderful, but body brush massage has many other benefits, both immediate and long-term:
- It increases blood flow.
- Improves skin radiance.
- It reduces stress and induces muscle relaxation, relieving fatigue.
- It stimulates the lymphatic system, aiding in detoxification and fluid elimination.
- Reduces the appearance of cellulite.
- A body brush is truly an amazing beauty tool, but of course, you need to use the right technique and be consistent to see results.
How do I use a body brush?
If you've made it this far, it's probably because you're tired of miracle treatments (many of them expensive) that promise to eliminate cellulite and do absolutely nothing, or almost nothing. Besides being effective, body brushing massage is very simple, super enjoyable, and even easy to do. We'll explain how:
- Choose the right brush. Our natural bristle body brush is perfect for massaging the skin all over the body, and thanks to its handle it allows you to easily access the back of the body.
- You should use the brush on dry skin before showering, and after showering (and rinsing with cold water to stimulate circulation) you can apply a moisturizing cream.
- Brush your entire body, from your ankles to your neck, using upward and circular motions.
- Start at your feet and work your way up your legs and thighs, using rotational movements in the front and back.
- Continue on the stomach, always in circular motions, moving to the buttocks and back, in upward movements from the lower back to below the neck.
- Brush your arms in upward motions, from your hands to your shoulders. Don't forget the underarm area, a super important point for the lymphatic system.
- Slide the brush from your neck to your shoulders, on both sides, and then massage your chest area.
- Be gentle: a body brush massage is fabulous, but don't overdo it, be gentle. Even though it's gentle, this technique goes a little deeper than a "normal" exfoliation, so there's no need to be too vigorous, especially in more sensitive areas like the neck.
If you have skin problems such as eczema, excessively sensitive skin, or psoriasis, using a body brush is not recommended, as it can worsen inflammation. Otherwise, it's perfectly safe. Incorporate this amazing technique into your beauty routine, repeat it two to three times a week, and let your skin glow, fearlessly, from head to toe!
