Spring is getting closer and closer, and while we all dream of sunny days and lighter, fresher clothes, the stress comes back: what to do about the cellulite that lurks beneath skirts, short sleeves and dresses?
Cellulite - a change in skin fat that causes cells to enlarge and compress, causing irregularities and ripples on the surface of the skin - is a common problem for almost all women at some point in their lives. But don't despair, because there is a solution.
It's amazing how simple it can be, but one of the best treatments for cellulitethat we can do at home, two or three times a week, really is a dry massage, using only a body brush. This method has been used for millennia in Ayurvedic medicine, and it works because it acts on the surface of the skin to stimulate everything underneath (the lymphatic system) and get to the root of the problem.
What is body brush massage?
It is an exfoliation technique that consists of a dry massage using only a body brush, with soft natural bristles, which we pass all over the body. In the Ayurvedic tradition, this technique of massaging dry skin to improve health, body and mind, is called garshanaand is still a daily beauty ritual for many women in Asia.
Why does body brushing work? Because it naturally stimulates lymphatic drainage, helping the body to get rid of excess fluids, leaving the skin more toned and fine, and even out its texture. The massage will increase circulation and help "dissolve" cellulite, breaking down fat deposits and preventing the formation of new cellulite by promoting lymphatic drainage.
In the massage process, the brush performs a gentle exfoliation, stimulating regeneration, removing dead cells and revealing healthy cells, and breaking down the links between lipids, for a smoother, more even appearance.
What's more, the massage itself is delightful, a relaxing experience to release tension and soothe muscles.
Benefits of body brush massage
Just getting smoother, softer skin would be wonderful, but body brush massage has many other benefits, both immediate and long-term:
- Increases blood flow
- Improves skin radiance
- Reduces stress and induces muscle relaxation, relieving tiredness
- Stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to detox and eliminate liquids
- Reduces the appearance of cellulite
- Body brushing really is an incredible beauty tool, but of course, you have to use the right technique and be consistent to see results.
How to use the body brush?
If you've come this far, it's probably because you've had enough of miracle treatments (many of them expensive) that promise to get rid of cellulite and do next to nothing. As well as working, the body brush massage is very simple, super pleasant and even easy to do. We explain how:
- Choose the right brush. Our body brush with natural bristles is perfect for massaging the skin all over the body, and thanks to its handle you can access the back of the body with ease.
- You should use the brush on dry skin before bathing, and after a shower (and a cold shower to stimulate circulation) you can apply a moisturizing cream.
- Brush your entire body, from your ankles to your neck, using upward and circular movements.
- Start at the feet and work your way up the legs and thighs, using rotational movements at the front and back.
- Continue on the stomach, always in circular movements, moving on to the buttocks and back, in upward movements from the lower back to below the neck.
- Brush your arms in an upward motion, from your hands to your shoulders. Don't forget the armpit area, a super important point in the lymphatic system.
- Slide the brush from the neck to the shoulders, on both sides, and then massage the neck of the chest.
- Be gentle: body brush massage is fabulous, but don't overdo it, be gentle. Even though it's gentle, this technique goes a little deeper than a "normal" scrub, so there's no need to be too vigorous, especially on more sensitive areas such as the neck.
If you have skin problems such as eczema, excessively sensitive skin or psoriasis, using a body brush is not recommended as it can aggravate inflammation. Otherwise, it's perfectly safe. Incorporate this incredible technique into your beauty ritual, repeat it two or three times a week, and let your skin shine without fear, from head to toe!
