More than ever, we need to think about how we navigate this life... how we treat the people around us, nature, and ourselves.
When we stop to think about why we are who we are and where we are, the answer is only one – choices . The other day, I found an Indian proverb in an article that goes something like, “If you want to know your thoughts of yesterday, look at what you are today. If you want to know how you will be in the future, look at your thoughts of today.”
The idea that life is the sum of our choices is known as the Law of Karma or the Law of Cause and Effect. The word karma means action and is part of what is called the "software" of our soul, along with two other concepts. For every action we take (karma), a memory (samskara) arises, which in turn creates a desire (vasana). Therefore, our actions are nothing more than a cycle motivated by desires created from memories of past actions.
It's important to be aware of our actions and thoughts at every moment so we can control our choices without constantly falling into old patterns. Understanding, for example, why we choose not to do something: is it out of fear, insecurity? Did something in the past create this feeling that prevents us from creating a new habit? By understanding these 12 laws, perhaps you can bring more awareness to the choices in your life.
The 12 Laws of Karma
1. The Great Law or Law of Cause & Effect
We reap what we sow. What we do in the Universe is repaid to us in kind. Therefore, we must manifest and act according to what we want to happen. We cannot want affection if we do not show it to others.
2. Law of Creation
Life doesn't happen on its own. It needs our participation. And it also gives us clues. Therefore, follow your intuition and surround yourself with what emanates energy according to what you most desire.
3. Law of Humility
We have to be able to accept things. If we see everything as negative, we will never be able to evolve and reach a better state.
4. Law of Growth
We only have control over ourselves. Therefore, it is within ourselves that we must seek change in order to grow and evolve. It is not the people or situations around us that need to change. As soon as there are changes in our hearts, life around us also transforms.
5. Law of Responsibility
When we identify something wrong or less positive in our lives, it means there is something within us that needs to change. We are a mirror of what happens to us, and what happens to us reflects us. We are responsible for our lives.
6. Law of Connection
Every detail counts, for it is they that allow for level progression in the events of the universe. No step is less important, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
7. Law of Focus
It's not possible to focus on opposing values at the same time. If we want to grow spiritually, we can't waste energy on negative feelings like envy or greed.
8. The Law of Giving & Receiving
If you believe in something, then your life will give you a sign that demonstrates that truth. The present is about putting into practice everything you may have learned in order to receive something from the universe in the future.
9. The Law of Here & Now
To live in the present, you have to detach yourself from the past and the future. Let go of old habits and behaviors, and stop theorizing or fearing the future. Focus on what you can do now, and the rest will flow naturally.
10. Law of Change
History repeats itself. For change to occur, we need to learn lessons that have not yet been consolidated. Only then can we reverse situations and witness change.
11. Law of Patience & Reward
We only achieve valuable results with patience and persistence. True happiness comes from savoring the moment, not from obsessing over a future reward that never arrives. Knowing that your reward will come is enough to keep us on track.
12. Law of Meaning & Inspiration
What happens to us is a true result of the dedication and time we invest. Our actions are part of a whole. When we act with passion, energy, and intention, we release inspiration for that whole.
How to break the cycle?
How aware are we of the choices we make? There are some ways to break free from autopilot and awaken our consciousness.
Meditate
By cultivating stillness of mind and transcending, we also free ourselves from karmic chains, experiencing freedom. Slowly, we manage to "cleanse" our consciousness to a purer state, free from any karmic vices.
Being Present
When you're not meditating, you can practice mindfulness in your daily life. Try observing yourself and your thoughts, as if you were watching your life unfold.
Stop and Think
It's so easy to unconsciously fall into certain types of behaviors that we don't even realize it, and therefore we don't carefully evaluate the consequences. You'll never be able to predict what a particular choice will lead to, but you can begin to intuit the results if you're aware of what your path has been like.
Listen to Your Intuition
In moments of difficult choices, new or unexpected things, listen to your intuition. Comfort or discomfort in the face of something are signs from the universe to act according to your true desires. Intuition is the intelligence to know your experiences and act accordingly.
Intuitive Cards: A Tool to Listen to Your Intuition
Our Intuitive Cards are not tarot, but an oracle : a deck without a fixed structure, accompanied by an illustrated book, that anyone can use to explore messages of clarity and self-knowledge.
They are ideal for moments of anxiety, change, or uncertainty, when we need to stop and listen to what our intuition already knows.
Tips for using your cards:
-
Keep them in a special place → an altar, a meditation corner, or simply a tidy and inspiring space.
-
Trust your first impression → the first reading of the letter is the most intuitive and truthful.
-
Create calming rituals → choose a quiet moment, take a deep breath, and be present.
How to draw cards step by step
-
Put your energy into the deck → touch, shuffle, and feel the cards .
-
Define your question → the clearer it is, the clearer the answer will be.
-
Shuffle, divide, and put back together again → concentrate while breathing deeply.
-
Run your hand over the cards and choose the ones that you feel "draw you in".
-
Observe before reading → let your intuition guide you before turning to the book.
-
Read the meaning and connect the messages → intuition + the written explanation will give you clarity.
You can write the messages in a journal or meditate on them, thus creating an action plan aligned with what you need at that moment.
The 12 Laws of Karma are a powerful guide to bringing awareness to our actions and creating a more balanced life. Every choice is an opportunity to sow the seeds of the future you wish to reap.
