I have oily skin: What now?

A guide to caring for oily skin.

I leave to her all the care that is fundamental for me to rebalance oily skin – not only with beauty products, but also from the inside out, of course. Even if your skin isn't considered oily, you certainly go through phases where you feel that way, and it's always good to know how to react to those phases.

What does oily skin look like?

Excessively shiny and oily. If you wear makeup, you may find it difficult to keep it on your skin. This means that our sebaceous glands are producing too much sebum – more than enough to lubricate the skin and remove dead cells, releasing the excess along with sweat.

If not properly cared for, pores become clogged and enlarged, making them more prone to the accumulation of dead cells, which can result in (or worsen) blackheads, pimples, and acne , especially in the forehead, nose, and chin area. But there's also good news: oilier skin is less prone to wrinkles and premature aging.

The skin's cycles

You may not always have oily skin, but sometimes you can. That's because our skin goes through cycles. Start observing your skin during the different phases of your menstrual cycle.

  • During menstruation , you may notice drier skin , as progesterone and estrogen levels drop.

  • After menstruation , estrogen production increases, which promotes collagen production, resulting in firmer and brighter skin .

  • During ovulation , collagen levels remain high, and some women feel more confident than ever. But there may also be some extra oiliness – every body is different.

  • After ovulation , the body begins to produce more progesterone, which increases sebum production. We become more susceptible to clogged pores, and that's when those unsightly pimples appear in the most visible places.

Furthermore, there are also external factors, such as climate and pollution . Oh, and of course! The skin always signals that something internally isn't as well as it should be , so taking care of your diet and nervous system is fundamental.

1. Skin Cleansing

For me, this is the most essential care for oily skin . Cleansing daily, morning and night , helps eliminate excess oil and open pores so they don't accumulate impurities.

  1. Rinse the organic cotton face towel in warm water and wring it out.

  2. Cover your face with a towel to create steam and open your pores.

  3. Rinse the towel again in hot water and wring it out. Pour a few drops of Camellia Oil onto the damp towel and apply it to your face and neck, massaging the skin very gently. It will remove impurities and dead skin while deeply moisturizing the skin.

2. Hydration

After cleansing your face, it's very important to reinforce hydration in the right way. It's common to avoid moisturizing when we see oily skin, but this can have the opposite effect and cause the skin to produce even more sebum. Therefore, hydration with a formula based on light oils that don't clog pores is ideal.

I recommend applying Regenera , a light repairing balm that helps balance the skin's pH. It's very good for sensitive skin and for cases of acne or other inflammations , as it contains calming essential oils such as lavender, geranium, and blue tansy.

For those who prefer serums, the best option is Repara . A light and delicate facial oil, this serum, specially formulated for oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin, deeply cleanses and hydrates, combats imperfections, and helps balance pH, while naturally soothing and fighting acne. Gently apply 2 to 4 drops to clean skin and spread gently, always in upward motions.

The serum and cream can be used morning and night, and together, ideally applying the serum first and then the cream.

Facial masks are a more sporadic ritual, but super important. It's a concentrated way to cleanse pores and hydrate the skin . You should do a facial mask twice a week .

For oily skin, I recommend Luminosa . It's based on açaí , a nutritious source of antioxidants , and honey , a source of vitamins and minerals , with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits . It has properties that hydrate the skin, soothe inflammation, regenerate and tone the skin, and even out the complexion . You will immediately feel your skin softer and more serene.

It's inevitable. If we only apply beauty products, we're just sweeping the problem under the rug. We might feel some improvements, but they'll never be as profound and lasting.

I advise you to take Beleza Pura . You can add 1 teaspoon to drinks or your usual breakfast. This blend contains amla , schisandra , and açaí , rich sources of Vitamins C and E , which act as antioxidants , essential for neutralizing free radicals and promoting collagen production and regeneration.

You can still boost your daily hydration with Beauty Drops . They will strengthen your skin, making it brighter, more supple, and with a more even complexion.

Nutrition clearly plays a fundamental role in maintaining healthy skin. Focus on vegetables rich in water , such as cucumber, and lots of greens (lots of greens!) , like spinach, broccoli, and kale (especially the darker leafy ones) , which are rich in fiber and great for detoxification . Include plenty of oranges and lemons for their Vitamin C content, and bananas , rich in potassium, phosphate, and Vitamin E. Good fats like avocado or nuts are essential.

Avoid dairy products as much as possible because, since they contain many hormones, they increase sebum production. Eliminate or control your consumption of caffeine and alcohol, because they dehydrate you and therefore the skin may produce more oil to compensate. It goes without saying that refined carbohydrates, processed sugars, too much salt, and saturated fats are terrible allies (for any skin type, actually) and therefore we should avoid them whenever possible.

If you feel you need extra help , try Detox Drops , with chlorophyll that helps eliminate toxins, improve the digestive process and liver function , and increase oxygenation.

Did you get a clearer understanding of how to treat oily skin? I hope so, and I hope you'll soon feel much better about your skin!
