How often should I wash my hair?

QUANTAS VEZES DEVO LAVAR O MEU CABELO? - MPL beauty

Of all the myths related to hair health and beauty, perhaps one of the most deeply ingrained (and unintentionally!) is the idea that washing your hair too frequently is harmful. Nothing could be further from the truth. We cannot forget that the scalp (where hair strands grow) ages six times faster than facial skin, and therefore we need to give it our full attention, including keeping it clean and free of sediment that hinders the proper development of follicles.

Based on this principle, our advice is that you wash your hair without fear, using the right products (at least shampoo and conditioner), plenty of water (don't be afraid to thoroughly wet your hair), and as often as you like, at least every other day, and if your hair requires it, every day. We'll explain everything.

How often should I wash my hair?

It all starts at the scalp.

The health and beauty of our hair begins at the scalp, and for that reason alone it should be considered almost sacred. Despite being covered in hair, have you ever thought about the amount of "aggression" we subject it to? The factors we are exposed to daily, such as pollution and sweat, can weaken hair strands and cause the growth of unhealthy hair.

Like a garden we tend to so plants can grow, we want our hair to be fertile ground for new hair strands to sprout in the follicles, creating the right conditions (especially in terms of moisture). When we wash our hair regularly, we are cleansing our scalp of harmful sediments while simultaneously moisturizing the hair enough for healthy growth. Washing also removes dead skin cells that accumulate in the follicle, clogging it, which is why it's so important to keep the scalp clean, especially after sweating a lot (after a workout, for example, when the sweat dries, depositing "debris" on the scalp).

5 tips for washing your hair properly.

Just as important as how often you wash your hair is how you wash it and what products you choose to care for it. Here are some tips that make all the difference.

1. Wet your hair thoroughly.

Have you noticed how thoroughly they wet your hair when you get it washed at the salon? Before applying shampoo, thoroughly wet your hair and scalp. You'll see that it's much easier to rinse the shampoo completely afterwards, preventing the buildup of residue that causes dullness.

2. Rub gently

Now it's time to apply the shampoo . Put a good amount of shampoo in your hands and dilute it with water before applying it to your hair. An important tip: have you ever tried washing your hair upside down? It's brilliant, and it will allow you to scrub and massage your scalp in areas you don't normally reach. Start at the nape of your neck and apply the shampoo, moving towards the front, in circular motions to avoid tangles. Let the shampoo run naturally, using gravity to wash the rest.

Just as important as following these techniques is choosing the right products. We recommend our Bergamot and Orange Blossom Shampoo , formulated with 100% natural ingredients, which will leave your hair clean, shiny, and with an irresistible scent. If your hair is fragile or prone to breakage, then the best option is Super Hair Shampoo , a revitalizing and moisturizing formula that deeply cleanses the hair and soothes sensitive scalps, stimulating healthy and strong growth.

3. Do a double wash.

Experts also recommend double-washing, perhaps not every time you wash your hair, but alternately. That is, repeating the water-shampoo-water process twice for an even deeper and more effective cleanse. If your hair needs a boost of hydration, nutrients, and energy, you can try applying the Super Hair Mask , a potent formula based on plants and natural oils, which we advise applying at night before bed and rinsing out the next day when you wash your hair.

4. Use the conditioner properly.

Apply the conditioner only where you need it (some people need it all over their hair, others just the ends, others from mid-length to the ends), letting it sit for a few minutes so that it is fully absorbed. A golden rule, absolutely essential: after application, rinse your hair thoroughly so that no shampoo or conditioner residue remains.

Our Bergamot and Orange Blossom Conditioner is the perfect complement to our shampoo. Formulated with 100% natural ingredients, it leaves hair detangled and silky, while also hydrating and nourishing the strands.

5. Rinse with cold water.

Nothing beats plenty of cold water to finish the process. If you don't have the courage, at least use lukewarm water. Water that's too hot is really damaging to hair, as it will break and dry out the strands, and even accentuate frizz. In contrast, cold water helps to close the cuticle, retaining more moisture and controlling frizz.
